Few weeks after the launch of the new Social Analytics by Blogmeter, we are ready to release some other fresh developments.

Facebook Fan Location by Country
We introduced a new area in the main menu, called Fan Profile, that reveals the page fans’ origin, shown both in detail in a tab and graphically on a world map.

Pages admins already know the origin of their fan base thanks to Facebook Insights, but often wonder what is, instead, the country distribution of their competitors’ fans. In order to answer this need we introduced inside our tool a map and a table showing the fan base location and how the different nationalities increase or lose their weight on the total during time.

In addition, when multiple regional pages are merged into one international page, the new feature allows one to understand the number of actual fans on a national level.

The following example shows how Facebook displays the total number of fans even when the regional page opened.

Social Analytics by Blogmeter allows to see the real fans number of the regional page and to analyze their actual nationality.

Twitter Engagement Map

A new Engagement Map was introduced in the area Twitter Competitor. Like the one in the area Facebook Competitor, the map places the Twitter profiles under analysis on two axes representing the total number of followers and the total number of received mentions, inserting them inside four quarters that indicate their overall performance:

leaders: the most performing profiles, able to conquer and engage their followers more than the others;

engagers: Twitter profiles with a low number of followers, however, able to actively engage them ;

fan collectors: the profiles with many followers, however, making a limited number of interactions;

laggards: the least effective profiles, those that have a limited number of followers and generate less engagement than the industry’s average.

A little over a year ago, during the IAB 2011 forum, we presented the new proprietary tool, Blogmeter Facebook Analytics. Fifteen months later we are already ready for the second release and excited to announce several new developments.

From Facebook Analytics to Social Analytics
The Facebook Analytics tool, which at the beginning allowed brands to measure the efficacy of their fan pages, comparing them with the competitive landscape, has recently widened its scope. It has evolved into a more complete Social Analytics tool, also including the measurement of Twitter profile performances.

Follower trends, the counting of retweets, mentions and replies are among the metrics monitored. In addition the following will be included:

The evaluation of the total engagement generated by monitored profiles, obtained by summing the retweets and replies;

Impression assesment, for a comprehensive measurement of the audience reached, obtained by weighing every tweet with the number of followers that the profile has at the moment of publication;

Unique authors count that mention profiles in a specific period, to understand the engaged audience’s actual size;

The hashtags most frequently used by profiles and by those who mentioned them, to verify the effectiveness of communication strategies and to understand the main topics of a specific industry;

The authors that mentioned profiles and those cited by them, with the integrated Klout Score for each one, to allow the identification of the industry’s influencers.

Besides Facebook and Twitter, we plan to include in the tool, Google Plus in the following months.

New look
The new release of Blogmeter Social Analytics shows a renewed user interface, which improves the experience and garantees an optimal navigation. It features an orange and gray color scheme, which is in line with the recently updated logo for Social Analytics by Blogmeter.

Facebook Engagement Map
In the Facebook competitor section we introduced an Engagement Map that compares the pages selected, positioning them along two axes, representing the total number of fans and the total engagement of the pages. The map shows a complete overview of the results achieved by the industries’ players placing them inside four quarters:

leaders: the most effective pages, able to gain and engage their followers more than the others;

engagers: pages with a limited number of fans that are, however, able to actively engage them;

fan collectors: the fan pages that have obtained several fans but have a low level of interaction;

laggards: the pages with a lower performance, those that have a limited number of fans and generate less engagement than the industry’s average.

Pages are represented on the map in the shape of bubbles, whose dimension varies according to the level of activity of the page and measured based on the number of brand posts published during the monitored period.

Facebook Brand Post Lifetime Value
The new metric, inserted in the pages Facebook Fan Page and Facebook Competitors , in the section Activity, evaluates the duration of the brand post’s life cycle, measuring how long they have received comments.

Facebook Ranking by Country
From now on it will be possible to monitor your performance by comparing the page positioning in accordance to all the main metrics (i.e. fans number, total engagement, response time) to the wide landscape of pages monitored by Blogmeter. Not only can you see whether your page is first, third or tenth for a specific metric among the monitored competitors, but also how the page ranks for the same metric on a national level.

Saving of pages and profiles groups
Another new feature is the possibility to analyze saved groups of Facebook pages and Twitter profiles, within the sections Facebook Competitor and Twitter Competitor. This can be useful in particular for those who conduct frequent analyses on a high number of pages and profiles, belonging to multiple industries and markets.

Lastly, two further developments:

A significant improvement in the platform pages and metrics loading speed, that offers a considerably enhanced user experience;

The introduction of the most recent release notes, located in the top right of the platform, keeping you up-to-date on the latest developments of the tool.

This week we have carried out a study on the engagement of Facebook Pages to identify the Top Ten most engaging Facebook Pages in the Cosmetics industry in the month of March according to the Total Engagement index (the index is the sum of fan posts, fan comments, likes).

On top of the list there is the Bath & Body Work fan page, that is enlivened by polls and contests. The peak in the fans activity is on March 21st, thanks to a contest that asks the fans to recognize some fragrances. Answers keep coming in, even after the official conclusion of the contest, causing the other fans’ complaints (e.g. PEOPLE THE CONTEST IS FREAKING OVER!!!!!!!!!! ).

Women’s Day, the hot topic of the month, is also what animates the page of Sensational Maybelline that asks fans to publish the picture of the woman who inspired them the most. More than 50 fans shared their pictures and, among them, the most inspiring woman turns out to be their own mother. Moreover, we have also found a few peaks of likes in the following days when the brand offers its advice on hairstyle, braids in particular, and eyeliner.

Also the Brazilian page of L’Oreal Paris is extremely active during the Women’s Day week when, L’Oréal requested women to write on the page wall “why being a woman is worth it”, inspired by its claim.

Another Brazilian brand O’Boticário, is in fourth position, thanks to the various activities carried out during the month: the page gains more than 30 thousand new fans on March 8th when several posts, videos and photos are published to celebrate Women’s Day. On the same day we observed the highest peak of likes. On March 22nd attention soars thanks to a few brand posts that remember old perfumes lines launched over the years. It’s also interesting to note that the page does not allow its fans to publish and share contents on the wall, but only to comment and like brand contents.

The American page of Maybelline NY succeeds in keeping the activity at a high level during the whole month thanks to a two-weeks contest that puts as a prize a 2 years worth of Maybelline products. There is a peak of more than 40 thousand likes on March 22nd when the brand simply asks: ‎””Like” this post if you’re wearing a Maybelline mascara today. Which one?”

MAC Cosmetics intrigues its fans with the Fashion Weeks backstage images of MAC make-up looks. Users comment enthusiastically both outfits and make up and ask details on the products used to create them.

Mary Kay is able to increase fan participation with easy questions and polls on beauty, personal preferences and experiences with make-up (e.g. Which lipstick and lip gloss duo is your favorite? We’re looking for the ultimate “power pair”!) turning the page into a real community, that fans use to find Mary Kay consultants and MK experts to introduce themselves. A peak was also found at the beginning of March when the news of products tests on animals in China is published: fans protest and declare their disappointment.

Sephora’s page activity rises at the proposal of adding an in-store treatment to the usual birthday gift but also, at the end of the month, in correspondence with the co-branding with Pantone for a make-up line inspired by the color of the year, Tangerine Tango.

Also Carol’s Daughter keeps its activity levels high during the entire month thanks to daily quotes, that sweep from Oprah to Mother Teresa, that fans often “like”. It is interesting to notice that on the page fans also ask for advice on beauty problems that are often left unanswered.

In tenth position we found OPI, the nail-polish brand. Female users publish on the page wall the pictures of their polished nails and like and comment the colors suggested by the brand. In addition, works and contests held on OPI’s website find room on the Facebook page.

In spite of the nature of the considered products the prevailing content type is the status update, with the only exception of O’Boticário that populates its wall mainly with images, forbidding users spontaneous contributions.

It is interesting to notice that celebrated brands like Dove, Chapstick, Clinique did not make it in the Top Ten because of their scarce ability to involve users, and also to see brands like Sephora, MAC, and L’Oréal Paris Brazil, overtaken by other fan pages with a higher engagement index.
